The Airport Car Park Problem

There is one call we get from Tulsa International more than any other: the traveller who lands, walks to the long stay lot, and finds the car will not turn over. It is a bad moment, usually late, usually after a long flight, and towing from an airport lot is both slow and expensive.

The cause is nearly always the battery, and the reason is standing rather than driving. A car left for a week or two in Tulsa summer heat loses charge the whole time it sits, and any small drain, a dash cam, an alarm, a boot light, empties it completely. A battery that started the car perfectly on the way out to the airport is often not up to it two weeks later.

What We Can Do at the Airport

Most of these are fixed in one visit. We test the battery and the charging system before replacing anything, because if something on the car is draining it, a new battery only postpones the problem. If the battery is genuinely finished we carry common sizes and fit one there in the lot.

Where the fault turns out to be the starter or the alternator, that is usually still a job we can do on site rather than a tow.

What We Handle On Site

The full list is on the services page, and the other areas we cover are on the locations page.

Before You Leave the Car for a Trip

If your battery is more than three years old and you are leaving the car for a fortnight in summer, have it tested first. A test takes minutes and is a great deal cheaper than a callout on the night you land. It is also worth unplugging anything left in a power socket, since a dash cam on standby will flatten a healthy battery over two weeks.

Airport Questions

Can you reach me in the parking lot?
Yes. Tell us the lot and the row when you call and we will come to the vehicle.

I have just landed and it will not start. How long?
We give you a realistic window when you call based on where we are and what is booked. We will not quote a time we cannot keep.

Is it always the battery?
Usually, after a car has been standing, but not always. Starters and charging faults look similar from the driver’s seat, which is why we test rather than simply fitting a battery and hoping.

Can you help before a trip instead?
Yes, and it is the cheaper way round. A battery and charging test before you travel avoids the whole situation.
